Breakfast at The Goat Village was equally tasty. The manager told us to pack some parathas to enjoy at the summit. One of the hotel workers accompanied us as guide. We were the only ones on the trek. The first leg was pleasant. We were able to hit the forest within an hour. Then the challenging segment started.
The snow clad trek to Nagtibba |
Although it was cold, we had not anticipated snow. Even the guide didn’t tell us. When the first stretch of snow met us we were thrilled. We were both wearing sneakers so we navigated with a light feet. Soon we realised the snow is all the way to the top. This was more than two hours of trek that were supposed to do in snow wearing sneakers.
Steep climb of last leg begins |
Our legs were frozen and our shoes were wet by the time reached the last leg which is also the steepest. Wherever we would put our foot, it would go in the snow till the knee. Our progress was slow but steady. In another hour when the summit was visible surprisingly there was no snow at the top.
Somehow navigating the deep snow |
It was windy but sunny at the top. We both took our shoes and socks off and put under the sun to dry off. Then we opened our tiffin and devoured the parathas. After this effort we were hungry. The guide had brought water that we were thankful for. We spent another hour at the Nagtibba peak and enjoyed the panoramic view.
Enjoying sun at top of Nagtibba |
The descent was trickier than the climb. We had already created foot-marks that we were trying to retrace. After multiple slips and falls, not fatal but risky, we reached the stretch which was not covered with snow. Our guide suggested we take a detour through the Nag Devta Temple that was a major place of worship in these parts.
Part of Nagtibba Peak was also covered in snow |
We made our prayers and walked down to the resort quickly. It was evening and we wanted to get back to Mussoorie. While coming down from the resort we met those who were climbing up to check in. It was dark when we drive out of Pantwari village. We were still able to reach Mussoorie by 8 and have another cup of tea at the same place on the Mall Road from where we had started yesterday at 4.
