Macau

Macau is a party place. Gambling, consorts and shopping would be the top three activities that one would go to Macau for. Then there is leisure and tourism but those are lower in the list. An hour on speed boat from Hong Kong, Macau is invariably paired with the big brother HK for people coming from far and depending upon the activity, one spends time in each of these SARs. We were in HK for 3.5 days before we decided to take a Cotai Jet to Macau on a sunny afternoon.

Ruins of St. Paul’s

At Macau harbour, the major hotels keep constant ferrying of buses. We took the one for The Venetian and reached our destination resort in no time. The Venetian is as grand a resort as can be. Designed on the premise of Venice, you can see the Campanile and Santa Maria from afar. Inside the walls and ceiling are painted rich. We were checked in quickly and were told to go to the south suites section. It took us further 10 minutes walk to reach our room.

Our room was something we have not even closely experienced before. There was a washroom, then the king size bedroom and then the drawing room. It was bigger than our house. Everything was plush. There were two 65 inch TV sets. Carpet was like a cushion. The wall at the end was completely glass and there was platform to sit on. Outside the green meadow was meeting the ridge. It was beautiful. We made tea and just sat at the edge watching the horizon.

After a while was started for a tour of the repost. The Venetian and Parisian are two big resorts internally connected. We first went for the quarter size replica of Eiffel Tower at the Parisian. Taking an about turn we crossed the road to checkout the mall on the opposite side which had Hard Rock Cafe as well. Later in the evening we went the opposite way as Manas had told us to check out Galaxy. While exiting The Venetian we realised the resort has three lobbies at three sides and we could have saved few minutes checking in from south end.

Galaxy was huge, bigger than The Venetian. The unending restaurants and branded shops continued till The Broadway. We took photographs at the lobby of Galaxy and came back. Tired we rested in our luxurious room for a while. We decided to eat dinner at a Michelin Star restaurant - there are many in Macau. Fortunately we found an Indian restaurant at The Venetian by the name The Golden Peacock. Food was delicious and it felt like a world class service. Satiated, we went for the casino.

We went for roulette. Chinese people are crazy on gambling. We witnessed at least a million dollars going down the drain within few hours at a table we settled at. We lost about hundred dollars and nobody seemed to be making money here. We decided to retire. Late in the night we visited the famous Gondolas on the third floor. It is something - to build a whole mini Venice with canals and gondolas on the third floor was an architectural marvel. We took several clicks.

Our cozy room was waiting for us. Next morning we checked out at 12 and went for Macau city for the Ruins of St. Paul’s among other things. Our flight from HK was at 5 in the evening and back calculation told us we had to take the 2PM speed jet that goes directly to HK Airport. We had couple of hours and we decided to make us of it.
