Kausani

Trip: Delhi > Nainital > Kausani > BaijnathDelhi

Kausani is a secluded hill station in Uttarakhand famous for comprehensive view of Nanda Devi range on a clear day. Trip to Kausani was eventful. We booked an overnight bus for Nainital from Kaushambi Metro Station. Direct bus to Kausani was not available and Nainital being less than 75 miles, we thought we will find something to hop from there.

That 'something' was a costly cab which took 5k for a return trip. We took it after a filling breakfast near Naini lake which by the way was shimmering in the bright May sunlight. The 4 hr drive from Nainital to Kausani is scenic as the road meanders over valleys and beside rivers.

Kausani was quiet as expected. We checked into our pre-booked hotel in time for a view of mountain range the contour of which were visible from our room. We first took for the hotel roof. The view was simply beautiful thanks to almost clear sky. We checked the decorated terrace as well. It had swings and flowers of different colours adding to the beauty of view in front of us.

We decided to have lunch outside and chose another hotel nearby. Kausani is hardly spread over half square mile radius. Market is not too big although woolens shops are abundant. On our way back, we noticed a high tower built specifically to see the Nanda Devi range. We climbed that and took some pictures.

Food at the hotel was surprisingly good and we settled for a good night sleep after a tiring day. We had even bigger plans for tomorrow - covering Baijnath and be back at Haldwani in time for the Shatabdi Express for Delhi.
